“A cut above many of its rivals” — The Washington Post
Swan Lake premiered in 1877 at Russia’s famed Bolshoi Theatre with a score composed by Tchaikovsky. However, it is the 1895 revival by Petipa and Ivanov that garnered great praise, and it is this version that the Russian National Ballet Theatre, under the artistic direction of Elena Radchenko, will present. The company performs the timeless Russian folktale of the star-crossed lovers, Prince Siegfried and the Swan Queen Odette, and the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart. This ballet masterpiece is presented with sumptuous costumes and lush scenery, and danced by a company founded in 1980 with the sole purpose of preserving the great tradition of Russian ballet.
